Is there anyone just like me that as soon as you step into a bookstore you just go crazy? Not to mention a bookstore that has its own dedicated stationary floor? I just can’t help looking at those stuff and wanting to buy them all! So today we are going to see one of the biggest bookstores in Dublin, the Eason bookstore on the O’Connell Street which is in the heart of Dublin City. The front door looks quite nice with the iconic engraving of the year when Eason was founded. Now let’s go in!
The ground floor of the bookstore is the typical book sections, here you can see books of all sorts from best sellers, fictions, self help publications to literature and so on.
This section is quite interesting to me, “Read it before you see it." Obviously this bookshelf is dedicated to books that are adapted into movies. Don’t know how you guys feel about film adaptation, personally I think it is better to enjoy the book and the adaptation separately and without any expectation. Say you read the book first then you should not expect its adaption would follow the story to the T. If you watch the movie before you read the book, you should also give the book a chance and enjoy the story in depth. I find it easier to watch an adapted film before reading its book since you wouldn’t feel like any details are left out however when you read the book you would be visualizing those characters in the way they are portrayed in the movie so…well ain’t nobody got time for that evaluation, just enjoy both then, life is short, haha. (Who started all the discussion anyways!)
Haha one of my favorite sections!
I’m not trying to promote anything here but Donal’s recipes are super tasty. I’ve tried a few of his dishes and they all turned out super yum. Btw way he is Irish!
Of course the legendary Mary Berry’s cookbooks are also on the shelf!
I don’t know how you guys select new books when you are in a bookstore, for me I’m most attracted to beautiful book covers, a practice which is totally against the philosophy of never judge a book by its cover lol. Sometimes I buy novels after I watched the movie adaptations such as Brooklyn, Never Let Me Go, The Lovely Bones, Life of Pi, To Kill A Mockingbird, Empire Of The Sun, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, etc. These movies are all wonderful and the reads are amazing, too!
Let’s see some books that I want to buy just because of the covers!
I’ve read Harry Potter series but this 20th anniversary edition looks so good that I want to own it.
Downstairs we got children’s books and YA novels but I didn’t go down there today.
I’m more into the first floor where you have a wide range of stationary, such as cards, notebooks, folders and so much more, they even have sections for home deco, a workshop area for knitting materials and tools.
I thought this pencil case is quite cute hahaha why!?
The most impressive part of the first floor is the spacious card zone. You got call kinds of card, from birthday cards, sympathy cards, wishing cards, anniversary cards to miscellaneous cards. Name one occasion you need a card and this floor definitely got you cover.
The most epic ones are the birthday cards for kids that range from 1 year old to 16 years old. I picked out one card each from year 1 to 10, as if I had a kid having birthday next week!
You have a whole shelf for each year from 1 to 10 but then 11 to 16 are all arranged together, is it parents stop buying cards for their teenagers?
There is an entire shelf for wedding cards, gifts and picture frames.
And this above-mentioned area for knitting.
You have cards and knitting area at one side and the other side you have products of all sorts and some home decorations.
Here you have candles, postcards, mugs and cups, picture frames, piggy banks, decorations and stuff.
These mugs are quite fun they all have a theme or occupation such as “fishing", “golfing", “I’m an engineer", “I’m a teacher", etc. and the ones bellow have names on them like “the top bloke Adam."
This mug is quite nice and it says “home is where the heart is."
There are some interesting coin containers and this one caught my attention.
Chocolates with names on it.
One of the decorations I like to have, it says “I love you to the moon and back."
This is the only thing I saw today and almost got it on impulse. How awesome is that? Hello, a kitchen conversion board ne! I wanted it so much haha.
This bookstore is quite big and they have a cafe on the second floor even, The first floor is full of things I like, I will definitely come back again for some books and cards and perhaps this conversion board. There is a store nearby called Flying Tiger Copenhagen and they have some interesting and inexpensive stuff as well, I wonder if you guys would like to see the store and read a post like this one?
