The Cookie Monster|

A few months ago me and husby were in a diet and I still remember that one day he sent me a picture on WhatsApp, a picture of 3 donuts, one of which was decorated like a cookie monster from the Sesame street. He wrote “there are donuts in the office today, I wanted to eat him so much! But I didn’t I’m so brave.” He was indeed very brave because I know how much he likes donuts.

Ever since that day, I had been searching for this cookie monster. Whenever we visited a new dessert shop I’d see if they have donuts fashioned like a cookie monster. I asked him if he knew from where his company ordered those donuts but he didn’t have a clue. I checked, it was neither the Rolling Donut nor the Off Beat Donuts. Subsequently, the search of the cookie monster came to a halt some time ago.

Today I had to take care of some stuff at the post office, as I was getting closer to the post office I reckoned that I didn’t have cash with me. I made a right turn onto the O’Connell street so I could go to the bank and the ATM and I ended up on the opposite side of the street, the side I traveled much less. I was walking, listening to my audio book and all of a sudden an unnoticeable donut shop came into my peripheral vision. I walked towards it and saw something blueish. My heart skipped a bit and I had a feeling and knew that it was the cookie monster I had been looking everywhere for! I couldn’t believe my eyes! I was so freaking thrilled knowing that my husby would be so happy. Turned out it was a donut shop called Boston Donuts that’s selling these styled donuts. Yet they are not very famous so I didn’t come across them on the Internet when I was searching for donut stores in Dublin.

After getting things done in the post office, I went to grab two cookie monsters and had been conceiving the best way to unfold this wonderful news. As I was near home, I made a call to husby, who happened to be working from home today.

Taitai: Hello, Beebee, are you busy?
Husby: No, what is it?
Taitai: Can you come pick me up at the elevator? I am being followed.
Husby: What? Alright, I’m coming.

Upon hanging up the phone call, I felt a bit funny but guilty at the same time since he sounded really worried. We met each other on the hallway and he looked nervous and grim while checking if someone’s behind me.

Taitai: They followed me home.
Husby: What are you saying? Are you okay?

He grabbed me by my arms with both hands, just like in the movies.

Taitai: See, these guys followed me home.

He was so relieved when I showed him the two cookie monsters I got.

Husby: Oh my god, you’re not followed? I’m so happy it is not real.
Taitai: This is what you want right?
Husby: It is!
Taitai: I found it on the other side of the O’Connell street. I had been thinking how I would unfold this discovery.
Husby: You scared me so much baby, I was ready for a fight.
Taitai: Hahaha, I’m sorry babe, okay, I will make some coffee and we can have this together.
Husby: That sounds great.

I think it’s better I don’t do this kind of prank in the future, husby was really happy to see those cookie monsters though. So we went home, I made coffee and as usual he smelled the donut before he took a bit. He always smells his food.

Husby: Mmm… coconutty.
Taitai: Yeah? (I was a bit concerned because he didn’t like coconuts.)
Husby: It is tasty but there is coconut. It is not as delicious as I imagined.

Obviously they used colored shredded coconut to mimic cookie monster’s fur. This story tells us that sometimes somethings are better remained unknown and desirable in your dreams. Nevertheless, though the dream is now a bitter realization of reality, at least we tried the taste of it which is essentially a good thing.

*Taitai’s quick review on the Boston Donuts: It is cute. The dough itself resembles that of a loaf of commercial bread which results in a less elastic texture. The price is okay, 2 for 5 euros.
